“Our story began almost 20 years ago and continues to grow!”

Repertorio Latino was born in 1998 thanks to the initiative of a group of Hispanic actors with the firm commitment of elevating the quality and presence of Spanish theater in Chicago. After working for about a year, with Latino Experimental Theater Company, under the direction of Miguel López Lemus, several members decided to form their own theater group and Repertorio Latino was formed. In July of that year Repertorio Latino makes its debut participating in the First Annual Latino Theater Showcase organized by Latin Choice Entertainment. This event was held at Loyola University and Repertorio Latino participated with Cheneques by the Mexican author Miguel Angel Bernardi. Repertorio Latino won first place which served as motivation to continue with the project.

Migrantes ( Los Desarraigados)

By the mexican playwright: Humberto Robles Arenas

Directed by: José Burgos

The Pacheco family immigrates to the United States (Texas) from Mexico, fleeing from

the social and political insecurity that plagued their country as a result of the Mexican

Revolution at the beginning of the 20th century. But they pay a high price for the

“security” they seek, as they encounter a nation wrapped up in an imperial war that will

devour some of the family members, converting dreams into nightmares. They find

themselves “living like a strange animal,” far from their home and immersed in a

dominant culture that only values them as workers or soldiers for the war, while treating

them as second class citizens.
